When I was younger, writing wasn’t my only pastime. I would often pick up a pencil and paper to draw something. I’ve taken a few drawing classes occassionally throughout the years. I never connected drawings or images to communication until my graduate education. It was while being a student of rhetoric and writing that I realized that images convey messages and, therefore, are forms of communication.
Taking Document Design in graduate school unlocked a love that I didn't know existed, a love for design. While designing documents for ease of use and professional environments, I realized that I not only enjoyed drawing but also enjoyed presenting information in a appealing and clear way by using drawings and other graphics to assist text in conveying messages. Graphics alone can convey messages or communicate information or can be used with text to clarify and communicate information.
In the beginning of the course, my professor stated that we would never look at documents the same again, and she was right. Besides wanting to format documents more, I wanted to learn how to alter and create images/graphics in other ways besides through drawing by hand. This interest caused me to take some beginner graphic design courses. In these courses, I learned how to use Photoshop and InDesign more and use Illustrator for the first time. The purpose of the following samples is to show some graphic design projects I have completed. Lingering the mouse over the image links below will reveal information about the specific projects. |
